During my annual I requested the mechanic to set up my fuel system. I was showing 16-17 GPH on my EDM830 at full power during takeoff. The book calls for 18 GPH. We set up the system and all looked good until the test flight. I only showed 14.5 GPH and the airplane was running really rough. Back on the ground we checked everything timing, injectors, hooked up the gauges on the fuel system again. Ran the airplane on the ground and again things were smooth and where they belonged. After a couple of flights again a rough running engine. Discovered debris in the fuel system from a fuel sender we replaced during the annual. Flushed the tank and the engine lines and again I have a smooth running engine. Reset the fuel system again to factory specs. Now my engine runs fine but the fuel flow is down to 16.5 on takeoff. If I turn on the electric fuel pump the flow goes to 17.5. Why would the fuel flows be fluctuating after being set? Is the engine driven pump staring to go bad? I hate to send it out for rebuild without knowing that it is the problem. Any thoughts out there?

Unlike a Lycoming, fuel flow will be higher on a Continental when an additional pump is added to the mix. What is your EGT at full rich and full power on takeoff? 1400 or less, don't sweat it. Higher and you might want flow bumped a little higher.
