Stec make a reliable systems. Make sure you select one with heading and altitude hold. Adding glide slope coupling is fantastic but expensive.

Real happy to have AP recent installation in our Mxt-7-180.

Ive always had tough time holding altitude within 50 feet, while managing other duties. Now with altitude hold, life is good!

Have STEC 50. When in heading mode, either GPSS or heading bug, tracts fine but in a crab format. Nose 5 degrees to right and right wing up 5 degrees. Consequently flying in a crab (I.e. sideways). Anyone having similar problems.

Yes, I’ve experienced similar with S-TEC 60-2.

Correct answer is probably to check and adjust rigging at next maintenance.

Quick temporary “fix” is to tweak the flaps and/or manage L/R fuel tank contents and weight of passengers.

P.S. If you have a very skinny right seat pax, consider doubling up or trading for a “traditionally built” one in the “wanted/for sale” section on this forum. Rolling Eyes

Did you adjust rigging?

Going through the complete rigging set up at least once during your ownership of the aircraft is highly recommended. It is not always evident what changes have occurred during the aircraft's various owners in the past. There are a lot of mechanics out there unfamiliar with aircraft rigging (or at least Maule rigging) that overlook its necessity to make an aircraft behave properly as it moves through the air. If its incorrect and you get it proper again you will love how it flies.
