What was the scoop on the radio ant on the top of the right wing? Speed noise etc??

My longer wing probably cancels out a lot of the extra power.Karl Hartlen wrote:In my 1968 M4-210C, I get 135 mph (117 kts.) indicated, using 23 square at 3000'. I would be curious to hear from other M4-210C owners, I've never compared!!

then I guess I should'nt complain, even Taildragger (M5-210C) seems to be about my speed but using a bit more power. I thought longer wings would generate more airspeed than drag, you know what I mean, more lift so more speed for the power used.... Anyway, I am no aeronautical engineer and my theory training is so far back!!
I'd also be curious to hear from Franklin powered Maule owners, this engine is quite a performer I hear ??

I had read a discussion someplace that came to the same conclusion...noise.
"To most people, the sky is the limit. To a pilot, the sky is home."
Still a bit cloudy when it comes to aviation insurance? Find some clarity: Clear on Top

On the subject of speed
Sometimes we tend to fish story our speed a bit. I was talking to a neighbor one day who is building an RV-9 trike who was telling me when it is done it will take off and land in 300 feet and cruise at 195 mph. I just looked him straight in the eye and said "Oh, so it's just like my Maule but only seats 2 people then." It's all in good humor!!

Scott,
I'm not sure about which way you are going about the RV. However, I owned a cut up RV called a Harmon Rocket and I can tell you this thing could take off and landshort.
If you google RV9 and the specks say it can take off and land in 300 ft it will take off and land in 300 ft. With a bush pilot I'm sure it would do better, Van does not seem to go overboard about his aircraft.

Uh oh. Now I've gone and done it!
Wasn't trying to knock the RV at all. Was trying to brag up my Maule. That's all.

I just could not tell, sorry. Many people out there have not studied the Rv line of aircraft. For that matter, few have studied the Maule.
I did not know Maule had ever built a turbo until I bought one and every one bad mouthed Betsy because she has a Turbo, oh they all were wrong.

No A64, the 210tc was built to a type certificate, It was not an after thought.

So I think what I am seeing so far is:
Model Cruise/MPH
M4 210 135
M5 180C 120 to 125
M5 210 132
M5 235C 135 to 150
M7 235C 144 to 155
Again, what I am looking for is what you use to plan for a x-country trip at a normal cruise speed. Not firewalled, or TAS, or 75 mph tailwinds, or loaded with six buffalo and a survival pack. Just me and my friend (girlfriend, wife, mistress, dog, buddy, etc.) are going to jump in my Maule and travel for an hour or three for the hell of it (lunch, fishing, golf, skiing, back country strip, shooting, etc.).
What I see is a fair cruise difference between a 180 and a 235. Does that ring true with you?

Well Skystrider I can't speak for the other's but, with the three different Maule's I have owned now I would plan on with my self and a friend on board getting a cruising speed-
1. Maule 180v CS - summer 105-110kts - Winter 110 to 115Kts
2. 2001 M-7 235 - I for the most part would always plan on 125Kts and winter would be a little better.
3. 2004 M-7 235 I bought it in Oct. this past year so I haven't flown it in hight temps yet. But it is faster than the other one I owed for sure. So I think even in warmer temps I'll get 130Kts or a little better.
This week I'm going to take my E6-B along and find out TAS so I can post them here.
If you want to take a ride in an M-7 and see the difference give me a call and I'll stop up or we will meet like we said.
