Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what the maximum play of the control yokes of an early M-4 210 should be? I'm especially wondering about the fore and aft play when operating the elevator.
Thank you,
Peter

Re: Elevator Play/ M-4 210
I've never seen such a spec published but would rather think that the concern would be that elevator is making travel spec for both up and down. Elevator yoke play is a result of a little wear on each and every bearing type surface between the fingertips and the elevator cables. That certainly should be checked and be sure that your A&P/AI is happy with the wear/elongation in those parts. A little wear really shows up as a lot of yoke play. Our M6 is approaching 12,500 hours and we had a little play, kind of like you see on many aging aircraft. Nothing was worn badly, just a touch here and there. We were fortunate to come across the whole assembly from a very low time wrecked M7. Made the old girl fly like a new bird. Would I consider the old parts serviceable, sure would. Do the new parts feel better, sure do.

I would guess the spec is travel and cable tension. The overall play would be determined by how much wear the pivoting components have. My M4 has no significant or discernible play between the yoke and the elevators.
