Window Vent Question??

Post by Appbrookie »

I have MXT7-180 w/ the round window vents. Recently, the pilot and copilot vents are becoming loose during flight, making it impossible for the vent flap to stay in position to direct the air flow. I tighten all the hardware after each flight, but 30 minutes into the next flight and they are loose again. Any suggestions? Would all new hardware help?

I have the same vents and have not experienced that problem. If the adjusting nuts just seem to be vibrating loose, I would try putting some LocTite Thread Locker Blue on the threads. Then reassemble to the tightness you desire.

TL Blue will hold against vibration, but can be disassembled with hand tools.

I'm trying to remember what type of nuts are on the ball clamps. I think that they're Nyloc nuts. If that type of nut is adjusted often, the nylon wears out and won't lock the bolt anymore. I'd replace them with new Nyloc nuts.

Seems Nylocs would be a good thing there. My vents don’t have them. Hasn’t been an issue yet but I can see the potential.
