Droop Tip Installation & Tinnerman Fastners
Looking for tips on droop tip installation. I've seen them done several ways. This particular set used to have the fiberglass tip installed underneath the wing skin and flush riveted on. I don't want to have to drill rivets to take the things off.
Im thinking i'd rather use screws and 1/2" U type #8 tinnerman....
this style http://psaenterprises.com/Tinnerman-Clip-Nut/
Maybe install the tip outside of the wing skin and use 100 degree washers.
Perhaps someone knows of a better fastner.. or a slicker way to do it..?

Tinnerman's work fine, Nutplates work as well... Most tips are not riveted on in place...

I was looking at an old Champ that needed recovering and had no piloting experience. My wife said "If you bring that thing home I'm leaving". Later she said "when you start flying that thing I'm leaving". Well, that was over 40 years and 5 airplanes ago. Actually ended up feeding the family and sending the kids to school by flying some old airplanes. I'm pretty glad she stayed.

My divorce cost me half of everything I owned, which at the time, was substantial.
Worth every penny.
Lost the house.
Kept the plane.
Kept my happiness and sanity.
Fair trade.
Ever hear the shortest fairy tale ever told?
"A guy asks a girl to marry him. She says 'No'. He lives happily ever after.'

Well I'm on number two and it was other things that ended the first one. I never planned on doing it again but I got lucky and found a good one. Don't always agree on everything but we come to some middle ground on most things. We are even looking forward to the day the heir to the mortgage heads to away to college so we can do some traveling in the plane together. There was a time she would have learned to fly but things just didn't work out that way. So I guess I'm blessed. Life's to short to dance with ugly women and that's more than skin deep.

Thirty plus years ago my father asked my future wife to go out by the pool and sit with him. He explained "That boy's grand father was a pilot, I am a pilot and he is a pilot. A pilot wife lives hell on earth. Now go talk to my wife in the kitchen and make sure she confirms that.
The Old Man is long gone but tonight when I get home, supper will be ready and she will ask as usual
"How was the flying today?"
BTW: just to stay on topic droop tips are visible on my avatar...
